01
Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing or using the Maltese-Canadian Museum website, you agree to these Terms of Use.
If you do not agree with these Terms, you should discontinue use of the website.
02
Purpose of This Website
This website supports the educational, cultural, archival, collections, research, and community activities of the Maltese-Canadian Museum.
It provides information about the Museum, its collections, programmes, events, history, research resources, digital projects, and related subjects concerning Malta and Maltese-Canadian heritage.
Website content is provided for general informational, educational, and research purposes.
03
Museum Content
Website content may include text, photographs, digitised records, object images, audiovisual material, maps, three-dimensional models, databases, research, graphics, designs, and other material.
Some material belongs to the Maltese-Canadian Museum, while other material is reproduced with permission, provided by community members or partner organisations, licensed from third parties, or in the public domain.
The presence of material on this website does not necessarily mean that the Museum owns copyright or every other intellectual-property right associated with it.
04
Copyright, Images & Reuse
Unless otherwise stated, original website text, design, graphics, compilation, and other content created by or for the Maltese-Canadian Museum are protected by applicable intellectual property law.
Visitors may access and view website material for personal, educational, and non-commercial research purposes.
Material should not be reproduced, republished, sold, altered, distributed, or used commercially without determining the applicable rights and obtaining any permission that may be required.
Individual images, archival records, publications, artworks, photographs, maps, models, and other works may be subject to separate copyright, licensing, attribution, cultural, privacy, or other restrictions. Credits and rights statements accompanying individual items take precedence over these general Terms.
Contact the Museum before reproducing collection or archival material in a publication, exhibition, commercial project, film, website, or other public product.
05
Material You Submit to the Museum
If you send photographs, documents, stories, research, corrections, event information, or other material to the Museum, you represent that you have the right or appropriate authority to provide that material.
Providing material through an enquiry gives the Museum permission to receive, review, internally reproduce where reasonably necessary, and retain that material for the purpose of considering or responding to your submission.
Merely sending material to the Museum does not transfer ownership, copyright, or other intellectual-property rights to the Museum.
Where broader rights are required for an acquisition, oral history, digitisation project, publication, exhibition, or other Museum activity, those rights will be addressed through an appropriate separate agreement, consent, licence, or Deed of Gift.
06
Collections & Archival Donations
Information on this website about donating objects, archives, photographs, books, digital files, or other materials does not constitute an offer or agreement by the Museum to accept them.
Contacting the Museum, submitting information, downloading a form, or delivering material for authorised temporary custody does not itself transfer ownership.
A permanent gift is completed only after the Museum has formally approved the proposed acquisition and the applicable Deed of Gift or other transfer documentation has been properly executed.
Please consult the Donating Materials page for further information.
07
Events, Programmes & Visits
Event dates, times, speakers, programme details, capacity, registration requirements, accessibility arrangements, and other information may change.
The Museum may modify, postpone, relocate, or cancel a programme where reasonably necessary.
Visitors remain responsible for confirming current information before travelling to the Museum, particularly for appointment-only visits and special programmes.
08
Accuracy, Research & Historical Interpretation
The Museum seeks to provide accurate, responsible, and well-grounded information. However, historical, archaeological, genealogical, and collections research develops over time.
Attributions, dates, identifications, terminology, interpretations, provenance information, and other information may therefore be revised as new evidence becomes available.
The inclusion of an interpretation on this website should not be understood as a claim that scholarly questions are permanently settled.
Users undertaking academic, professional, legal, genealogical, or other consequential research should consult the cited sources and appropriate primary documentation rather than relying solely on a website summary.
09
External Links & Third-Party Services
This website may link to or embed services, resources, models, maps, publications, or websites operated by third parties.
Such links are provided for convenience, research, interpretation, or attribution. The Maltese-Canadian Museum does not control and is not responsible for external content, availability, security, privacy practices, or terms.
References or links do not necessarily constitute endorsement of every statement, product, service, or policy of an external organisation.
10
Acceptable Use
You must not use the website in a manner that is unlawful, fraudulent, malicious, or intended to compromise the availability, security, or integrity of the website or its underlying systems.
Prohibited activities include attempting to gain unauthorised access to restricted systems, introducing malicious software, deliberately interfering with website operation, impersonating another person, or using automated processes in a manner that materially disrupts the service.
Normal use by search engines, researchers, accessibility tools, web archives, and other legitimate services is not prohibited by this section.
11
Disclaimer
The website and its content are provided on an "as available" basis for informational and educational purposes.
While the Museum makes reasonable efforts to maintain accurate and useful information, we do not guarantee that every page will at all times be complete, current, uninterrupted, or free from error.
Nothing on this website constitutes legal, financial, tax, medical, conservation, appraisal, authentication, or other professional advice.
12
Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Maltese-Canadian Museum is not responsible for loss or damage arising solely from reliance on website information, inability to access the website, use of an external service, or unauthorised third-party activity beyond the Museum's reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms excludes any right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
13
Privacy
The Museum's collection and handling of personal information in connection with this website is described in our Privacy Policy.
14
Governing Law
These Terms and use of this website are governed by the applicable laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
Any dispute relating to these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
15
Changes to These Terms
The Museum may revise these Terms as its website, programmes, digital services, or legal requirements change.
The current version will be published on this page with the date of the most recent revision.
